Methacrylate REACH Task Force
The European Union (EU) regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals was entered into force on 1st June 2007 with the objective to protect human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. The Methacrylate REACH Task Force (MRTF), comprised of MPA member companies as well as other manufacturers in the EU and Japan (including: BASF SE, Dow Europe GmbH, Evonik Operations GmbH, Mitsubishi Chemical Methacrylates, Röhm1, and Trinseo), completed the registration under EUREACH for the following lower methacrylates as a group of related esters:

Most of the registrations included the conduct of several studies to meet data requirements for compounds in the highest tonnage band, a comprehensive hazard assessment for each compound, as well as an assessment of safe handling conditions for identified uses of each compound.
Other REACH like Programs have been initiated (e.g., Korea, Turkey, Taiwan, United Kingdom) which may require registration of many of the above substances. The MRTF member companies have already declared their intention to assume the role of Lead Registrant for some substances, in some programs. For those that an intention has not already been declared a decision will be taken in the near future so if you also have such a wish we would encourage you to talk with the group as soon as possible. If a company plans to register under any of these programs, please contact the MRTF (Julie Spink at reachmethacrylatetaskforce@gmail.com).
